Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 17, 2026

Backspace ("the app") helps you find and remove large photos and videos from your device to free up storage. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it. In short: nothing leaves your device.

Data we collect

None. Backspace makes no network requests, and includes no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. We do not know who you are, how you use the app, or what's in your photo library.

Photo library access

With your permission, Backspace reads your Photos library using Apple's PhotoKit framework, solely to display what's taking up space and to delete the items you choose to remove. This access powers that functionality only, entirely on your device.

Deleting photos and videos

When you delete something in Backspace, it is moved to your Photos app's Recently Deleted album through Apple's standard system flow, which requires your confirmation and keeps the item recoverable for 30 days. Backspace cannot bypass this confirmation and cannot permanently delete anything on its own. No media is ever copied, transmitted, or stored anywhere outside your device.

Data stored locally on your device

Backspace keeps a small amount of information in the app's local storage on your device only (for example, your progress reviewing items and your lifetime storage-reclaimed stats), so nothing is lost between sessions. This data never leaves your device, is included in your normal device backups the same way any other app's data would be, and is deleted if you remove the app.

In-app purchases

If Backspace offers an optional subscription, purchases, receipts, and entitlement checks are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. Backspace does not receive, see, or store your payment details.

Third parties

Backspace does not share or sell data to anyone, because it does not collect any in the first place.

Children's privacy

Backspace does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, since it collects no information at all.
